From the return of legendary franchises like Beetlejuice, A Quiet Place: Day One or the remake of Nosferatu to the debut of hauntingly original tales like Immaculate , the lineup of horror films set to premiere this year promises to satisfy our deepest cravings for fear. 10. Beetlejuice II

Beetlejuice 2 is a long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s iconic film, this time starring Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder. Ortega previously starred in Burtons ‘Wednesday’ as the titular role. Directed by Burton, the film follows Lydia Deetz’s daughter, played by Ortega, in a story blending nostalgia with fresh elements. Returning cast members include Catherine O’Hara and Michael Keaton, with new additions like Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci. Expect a mix of practical effects and dynamic performances in this highly anticipated horror-comedy. We’re excited to see the outcome of this one.

9. Tarot

Now it always starts with a group of friends. They’re breaking the cardinal rule of using someone else’s tarot cards which leads them to unwittingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within. As they face the deadly consequences foretold by the cursed cards, a race against fate ensues. Written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, with Leslie Morgenstein, Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, and Scott Glassgold.

8. Abigail

Abigail is featuring Alisha Weir in the titular role alongside Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Angus Cloud, and Kathryn Newton. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with a screenplay by Guy Busick and Stephen Shields, the horror film is set to premiere on April 7, 2024, as the closing film of the Overlook Film Festival.
The story follows Abigail, a 12-year-old ballerina and daughter of an underworld figure, who is targeted for abduction by a group of criminals. They take her to a remote mansion for the night, demanding a $50 million ransom. However, they soon realize that Abigail is no ordinary girl as their members begin to disappear one by one. The film has a promising premise and we have to admit that we love to see Kathryn Newton in the Horror Genre. We think this one could be interesting to see. Also marks one of the last appearances of actor Angus Cloud who sadly passed away in 2023.

7. The Watchers

The Watchers is is an upcoming US-horror thriller directed by Ishana Shyamalan, based on A. M. Shine’s novel. Starring Dakota Fanning and Georgina Campbell, the film follows artist Mina (Fanning), who becomes ensnared by strangers haunted by mysterious creatures in a remote Irish forest. Production began in early 2023, with filming in Ireland concluding in September. The trailer was released on February 27, 2024, and the film is set a US release on June 14, 2024. M. Night Shyamalan isn’t set to direct this one but is heavily involved in the production. The first trailer has been released and the concept looks promising. Seeing Dakota Johnson back on the big screen is something that shouldn’t be missed.

6. MaxXxine

Directed and written by Ti West, serving as the final installment of the Xtrilogy, following “X” and “Pearl.” The film is set to release on July 5, 2024 and stars Mia Goth, reprising her role as Maxine and also serving as a producer. She’s starring alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. In the film, Maxine, the sole survivor of a massacre, moves to 1980s Los Angeles with aspirations of fame as an actress.

5. Wolf Man

So far there hasn’t been a picture of the production but Wolf Man is an upcoming American supernatural horror film written and directed by Leigh Whannell who was also the writer of films like SAW and The Conjuring . Scheduled for a release by Universal Pictures on October 25, 2024, the film is a reboot of the 1941 classic “The Wolf Man.” The story follows Lawrence “Larry” Talbot, portrayed by Christopher Abbott, as he seeks to protect his family from a dangerous predator. Julia Garner is also set to star. The project underwent several changes in development, initially part of Universal’s Dark Universe reboot plan. However, following the success of “The Invisible Man,” Universal shifted its focus to individual storytelling. Ryan Gosling initially pitched the idea for a “Wolf Man” remake, which later fell into the hands of director Leigh Whannell. After Goslings departure due to scheduling conflicts Abbott replaced the actor in the lead role.

4. A Quiet Place: Day One

directed and written by Michael Sarnoski. It is set to be released on June 28, 2024. The film serves as a spin-off to the successful “A Quiet Place” franchise, with John Krasinski, the creator of the original films, serving as a produce. The story follows a young woman named Sam and her cat as they navigate the initial days of an alien invasion in New York City. The extraterrestrial creatures, though blind, possess acute hearing and pose a grave threat to humanity. Production began after Paramount announced plans for a third installment in the “A Quiet Place” universe in November 2020. John Krasinski initially conceived the idea for the spin-off, with Michael Sarnoski eventually taking over as director and screenwriter. Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and Denis O’Hare are among the cast members. The last few installments mark a great series and we are more than excited to see the spin-off.

3. Late night with the Devil

a found footage horror film written, directed, and edited by Australian siblings Colin and Cameron Cairnes. It stars David Dastmalchian, Laura Gordon, Ian Bliss, Fayssal Bazzi, and Ingrid Torelli. The film, presented in a found footage style, revolves around the host of a 1970s late-night talk show, played by Dastmalchian, who interviews a parapsychologist and a survivor of a Satanic mass suicide. Late Night With The Devil has elements of horror films we know and adore from the 80s and 90s, which is exciting to see. We are definitely seated for this one.

2. Immaculate

A psychological horror film directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel. The film stars Sydney Sweeney, Álvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli, and Simona Tabasco. It follows Sister Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), who turns to religion after a near-death experience in her youth. She joins an exclusive convent in Italy where she befriends another nun, Gwen. However, Cecilia begins to notice strange occurrences within the convent. After experiencing a nightmare and discovering she is inexplicably pregnant, Cecilia uncovers dark secrets about the convent’s true purpose. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 12, 2024, and is scheduled to be released in North America by Neon on March 22, 2024. After its amazing reviews at the SXSW Festival the anticipation for Sweeneys production is certainly there. We cannot wait to check this out on the big screen.

1.Nosferatu

directed by Robert Eggers, set to be released on December 25, 2024. It is a loose adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula and the second remake of the silent film classic Nosferatu (1922). Bill Skarsgård portrays the titular character Graf Orlok, with Lily-Rose Depp and Nicholas Hoult in other lead roles.The film follows the young Ellen Hutter in 19th-century Germany as she is pursued by the Transylvanian vampire Nosferatu, who brings unspeakable terror. Filming began in February 2023 in Prague, with additional shooting locations in Toronto and Romania. The film is shot in color but aims to visually resemble the Romantic style of the 19th century. As big fans of Eggers previous work (The Lighthouse (2019), The VVitch (2015) or The Northman (2022)) we are definitely on the edge of our seats waiting for Nosferatu to come out. The film is rumored to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
