Saoirse Ronan offers riveting performance at Sundance with Nora Fingscheidts ‘The Outrun’

‘The Outrun’ premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last night. Starring front and center is Oscar Nominee Saoirse Ronan, playing a former alcoholic who is on a journey to recovery.

After a decade away and emerging from rehab, Rona (Saoirse Ronan), returns to the wild and breathtaking Orkney Islands, where she reconnects with her childhood. Memories intertwine while Rona confronts both past and present challenges that have all led her to her current path to recovery.

Based on the best-seller by Amy Liprot, the film is adapted by director Nora Fingscheift. Protagonist Pictures is handling worldwide distribution, while Studiocanal will release the film in the U.K, France, Germany and Austria. The film will have another special screening at the Berlin Film Festival in February.

Liptrot’s book, secured the 2016 Wainwright Prize and the 2017 PEN Ackerley Prize. It achieved recognition as a Sunday Times top 10 best-seller. With translations into 15 languages, the book garnered substantial success, selling over 110,000 copies in the U.K. alone. Publisher Canongate included it in its modern classics list, The Canons. The film rights for the book were negotiated by Rebecca Watson of VHA on behalf of James Macdonald Lockhart from Antony Harwood Ltd.

Saoirse Ronans powerhouse performance, pushing physical and emotional boundaries is already creating buzz on social media. Tweets are already hailing this as her best performance to date.

Early reviews state that she may already be a frontrunner for next years Oscar nominees. The Irish Actress already impressed fans with her unforgettable performances in Greta Gerwigs “Lady Bird” (2017) or “Little Woman” (2019) for both she even received Oscar nominations as best actress in a motion picture.

It is save to say that ‘The Outrun’ seems to be a must-see at this years festival season and offers a powerhouse performance by an actor we love to see on the big screen. The film can currently be seen at the Sundance Film Festival and will hold another special screening at the Berlin Film Festival “the Berlinale” this February.
