About us

‘Mise En Cinematic’ is a queer-based independent online film magazine from Germany. Founded in 2022, by Mel and Rue, during their bachelors in film until Jonathan, a long-time friend and fellow cinema enthusiast, joined the process. Eager to discuss new releases, it has since evolved into a platform that bridges film criticism, visual culture, and academic reflection.

Over the years, our team has become increasingly involved in both research and the film industry itself. This dual perspective has shaped our belief that art is not only a form of expression, but also a means of creating community and empowerment. Through Mise en Cinematic, we aim to foster dialogue, share perspectives, and celebrate the power of cinema in all its forms.

Why queer voices matter

Film journalism is space where queer voices are still too often overlooked. We believe film and media deserve to be discussed through a critical and reflective lens, but especially through a feminist and queer perspective. We deserve to be heard, to question dominant narratives, and to highlight stories that exist beyond the mainstream. That’s why we place a special focus on queer- and female-made projects, to amplify the voices that shaped us and may need to be highlighted, especially right now.
